TRUE Compassion” – A joint charity project between
THE Prince Dimitri Romanov Charity Fund"
andDet Russiske Hus
("Russkij Dom/The Russian House", a non-profit organization based in Copenhagen,Denmark)

“Love towards your fellow-creatures, true compassion for their needs and the
common will to bring them active assistance” is the motto of this joint charity project.

On August 2003  members of  the “Russian House”, a Danish  NGO, visited the Urshelsky district  orphanage(Vladimir  Oblast). They brought gifts, toys and  clothes  to children of the orphanage. Each child  who found the way to the orphanage has a special story, but the reason for getting at the institution is the same – a troubled family. Whatever the causes – parents unemployed  or drinking hard – the outcome is the same : children  come to the orphanage. For detailed info  on the  trip see   http://www.russiskhus.dk/

"The Russian House” visited the orphanage in Urshelsky

The orphanage serves  as an initial  stage on the way to  an institution for children  where the  incoming  kids will be directed after  their  legal  papers  are ready, as well  as rehabilitation center. The orphanage  was built to accomodate only 25-30 persons and is situated in an old two-storey building of a  former kindergarten. The building needed  repair, the roof  was  leaking and  the  gym  was  too little – only  small kids could  exercise there.

Being in constant touch with the orphanage, “The Russian House”  and the administration of the orphanage called  the  “Prince Dimitriy Romanov” Charity Fund to assist in providing  the  financing  for  construction  and equipment of the sports ground  as well as  for construction of the playground for smaller kids. The Fund has found a Danish sponsor.

In  April 2007  Mrs. Elena Ryurikova, the General Director of the Fund, visited the orphanage.

On July 23 2007  the sports ground  inauguration ceremony  took place at the Urshelsky orphanage. Mr.S.Markov, the Vice-Governor of Vladimir Oblast, Mr.N.Grushko, the Head of  the Gus-Khrustalny district, Mr.V.Shalayev, the Mayor of the Gus-Khrustalny city and Mrs. L.Kukushkina, the Director of the Social care  department  of the Oblast  participated in the event. Mr.D.Ryurikov, the Ambassador of  Russia to Denmark and  Mrs.E.Ryurikova, Ambassador’s spouse and General Director of the  Fund, P.Kurochkin, the member of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, members of  “The Russian House” Mrs. T.Kiseleva and her husband Mr.M. Goodness, Manager of the Baron Svendborg estate, came to inaugurate the sports ground. The participants of the ceremony noted with satisfaction that not only sports ground was built – repairs of the main building of the orphanage was done,  the  heating house and  laundry also repaired and  a new fence constructed, the adjacent territory  developed, flowerbeds and playgrounds for children arranged.

Speeches at the ceremony contained a lot of praise. Mrs. E.Ryurikova, the General Director of the Fund, expressed gratitude to the Oblast Administration as well as to the district and municipal authorities for vital participation and effective assistance to the project. It was agreed that the Fund and the Administration will cooperate further in other projects. The orphanage inhabitants received many gifts from the Oblast Administration. T.Kiseleva and her husband brought sports items and other presents for children. The kids had a true celebration.

The Prince Dimitriy Romanov ” Charity Fund, the orphanage administration and “The Russia House” express  gratitude to the Danish sponsor for  his noble  and vivid compassion  to the needs of unfortunate children. This project  gave a  convincing chance to  become  aware that the desire to help and joint efforts  can perform    miracles.

Prince Dimitriy Romanov was  happy to learn about the inauguration of the Urshelsky  orphanage sports ground. Unfortunately the circumstances did not allow him to come to Vladimir  to  take part   at the action. He expressed hope that in future  he will  fulfill  his  long time wish  to visit the ancient  land of Vladimir – the cradle of  the Russian State.
